Alloy Surfaces started out in Philadelphia in the mid 1950’s as a contract manufacturer developing and providing high temperature metal diffusion coatings for the Aerospace Industry. They moved to Justinson Street in nearby Wilmington Delaware, and then to Locke Road in Edgemoor, Delaware in the 1970’s. From 1978 to 1991, Alloy worked closely with the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) to develop Special Material as an IR countermeasure. The work with NRL led to development programs with other branches of the Military, including the Army, Marine Corps and Air Force, which have continued into the present day.
In 1993, Alloy Surfaces was purchased by Chemring Group, PLC a global manufacturer of military and industrial products.
In 1998, Alloy moved to its present location in Chester Township, Pennsylvania. In 2005, Alloy opened its second plant which also houses its Technology Center.
